Whittemore-Durgin Stained Glass Supplies, 825 Market St.,
Rockland MA 02370
Stained glass supplies and tools, art and architectural glass, and so much more!
While no stained glass transom, sidelight, or door insert can truly be called "easy", these 100 patterns have been designed with simpler cuts and fewer pieces than are typically seen in such patterns, yet they still maintain a traditional look and feel. Each two-page spread contains a set of patterns that work well together. For example, you will find a set of two matching sidelights and a complementary transom; a fan light and a matching door insert; or the whole kit and kaboodle: a transom, two sidelights and two door inserts. (Dover Publications)
These interesting designs presume that you will construct your lighthouse and its base (rocks, sand dunes, etc.) using a traditional copper foil method, then overlay it upon one large, dramatically colored piece of opal, wispy or streaky glass to represent the background sky. Comes with profuse instructions on achieving this overlay. Seven designs, full size patterns, and color photos of all the designs. From SGN Publishing.

Attention all anthophilous artisans: These 19 patterns for stained glass windows illustrate a variety of showy flowers: iris, rose, tulips, sunflowers, Bird of Paridise, orchids, lily, daisy among others. Most of the flowers depicted are realistic, while a few are stylized. Each pattern is shown as a line drawing (the pattern itself), a color illustration to show alternative color selections, and a larger color photo of a finished window. Instructions for enlarging are included. From Wardell Publications.

Safari and jungle animals are depicted beautifully in these 12 patterns, each of which span across a page spread (so you'll need to carefully remove the staples to get at them). Here you will find patterns for three lions, a lioness, two giraffes, two elephants, a tiger, a leopard, a monkey, a panda and a zebra, many of them with a (presumably) hot desert sun framing their faces perfectly. A small version of each is reproduced in color on the front and back covers.

If you are like us -- and you might not be, and that's OK -- you may find some of the stained glass design books out there to be full of juvenile and cartoonish images that are more suited for children's coloring books than for stained glass. You know what we're talking about.
Not so with this book. Here you will find absolutely beautiful, well proportioned designs of horses, elk, deer, raptors, wolves and the like, laid out in appropriate poses and with lines that follow the muscle structure of the animals. Bring the wild outdoors into your home (without all the bugs). Over 30 designs in black and white, about half of them also depicted in full color.
If you love cats, this is the pattern book for you. Over 25 realistically proportioned cats in various playful poses and situations -- lounging, snoozing, stalking, playing with yarn, and doing various other nice things (and none of the gross things) that cats do. These patterns aren't computer generated like those you find in a lot of pattern books. They are the real deal, as evidenced by the photos of most of the finished designs. As with other books from West of the Moon Publications, the book production quality is not so high, but the patterns are great, and that's what matters.

For the orchid afficionado, this well crafted book contains 17 designs for orchid projects, including windows, lampshades and jewelry boxes. Each design is anatomically correct, and is denoted by its scientific name in binomial nomenclature. The popular "Showy Lady's Slipper", or Cypripedium reginae, is represented twice, in a panel as well as a lampshade. The recommended glass selections of ripples and mottles create some breathtaking results. As with most books from Wardell Publications, some instructions, tips and tricks are included that will be useful for even the experienced craftperson.

New! The idea behind this book is that the images represented have symbolic meaning -- oak leaves represent endurance and long life, a heart represents love and friendship, wheat represents abundance, and so on. Installing these in your home sends a welcome message for visitors. (All you hermits out there might want to steer clear of this book.) Most of these patterns are intended as sidelights, transoms and door inserts, so they'll need to be enlarged significantly to fit your particular space. The oak leaves and stars patterns are especially comforting and inviting; the spider web (with spider!), not so much. Softcover. From CKE Publications.

New! There are 40 patterns in this appropriately named book, including two full size window patterns. All of the lovely women in this book are well proportioned, in the sense that they aren't cartoon-ish, and are all pleasant to the eye. We have maidens and princesses of Arthurian legend, a Native American legend, enchanted forests, and mermaids galore. Perfect for pagans, and we mean that in the nicest way. From Wardell Publications.

As with all the designs from Ms. Eaton, these drawings are quite stunning, and could be used as designs for creations other than those in stained glass. Heck, this book is enjoyable merely as a coloring book. To create these in stained glass you will probably want to enlarge these drawings, or just use portions of them, given the level of detail.
A wealth of beautiful patterns - 91 in all - adapted from the Book of Kells and other sources. Some might be impossible to achieve in stained glass (expect perhaps with a glass saw and some very good luck), but nonetheless a great book for the price.
Some familiar flowers -- morning glories, day lilies and the like -- neatly framed in circles, ovals, diamonds, or baskets. The hibiscus is especially stunning. There's also a "sun and stars" pattern in this book, but we're not sure why. Eight full-sized designs, all of them about 16" x 20", or 16" round.
Eight full-sized window patterns, the largest being 20" x 30", evoking peaceful, fanciful settings in nature, such as romantically inclined swans on a pond, a blue jay on a country fence admiring some sunflowers, and a lorikeet (that's a bird, we're told) in some jungle foliage. One of the more interesting designs here, for the lepidopterists among you, is a butterfly garden containing butterflies in each of the stages of metamorphosis: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly. Each design is shown in color photos, and the patterns are accompanied by information about how much glass you'll need, as well as suggestions for how to construct the windows.
As the title suggests, this book is a mixed bag of designs, from the relatively simple and cartoonish "Ba-loony Bunny", to the stunning "Majestic Iris." The images of birds, flowers and landscapes are particularly beautiful, and are alone worth the price of the book.
A classy collection of sidelights, transoms and door inserts featuring flowers, grapevines, scrolls, wreaths, and other motifs derived from authentic 19th-century sources. 175 black-and-white illustrations.
73 beautiful patterns inspired by elegant simplicity of the Arts and Crafts movement, which originated in England during the latter half of the 19th century. Mostly florals, a few birds here and there. Framed by oval, rectangular, square, round, and half-round borders, these designs can be adapted to other creative media.
The key word here is "easy". Approximately 100 images in oval, rectangular, square, and round formats. A great collection of traditional window designs.

Mr. Hywel G. Harris owns and operates a stained glass studio in Nottingham, England. When you and I have been securely asleep in our little beds over here in the USA, Mr. Harris has been prowling around in junk-yards and abandoned houses in his neighborhood, photographing stained glass windows from the 1880 to 1939 period. He has made line drawings of them all, and this book is the result. Not full sized, of course, but you can enlarge and convert the drawings to full-sized working drawings for your own use.
This 60 page book contains 150 different designs for sidelights, transoms and door lights. This is probably the most comprehensive book about stained glass for entrances ever published. This is a design book, and the drawings must be enlarged using the grid method. The designs depict a wide variety of subjects, from trellised roses, soaring birds and bouquets of roses to geometric and traditional presentations. The author has included many half-circle fanlight designs, as well as ovals and circles.
78 designs covering the whole gamut of nature from beasts, clouds, and plants to some very interesting birds and a turtle. There is a page of designs in the shape of a cathedral ceiling type house window.
This book contains 100 designs in black and white, two full size 16x20" patterns, and 54 color photographs of some of the projects as executed. 100 pages, 8 1/2" x 11".

Here are a wealth of stained glass window designs adapted from some of the most famous of the Tiffany Studios windows which were created early in the 20th century.
This book contains 60 designs adapted from pub and tavern signs. Some of the titles are "The Lord Clyde Inn"; "The Highwayman"; "The Black Swan"; "Saint George and The Dragon"; "The White Horse"; "The Dog and Gun"; "The Red Lion"; and "The Duke of York". The authors have thrown in some nice sketches of the actual buildings where they found these signs during their bar-hopping foray into Eng-land. You can easily enlarge them to full size by using the grid method, and make any one of them a focal point in your game room, den, or private drink-ing spot.
An environmentally correct depiction of our friends of the forest. (The ones who don't drop into the garden during the early evening and wreck the entire thing.) These cute beasts are really harmless. The rattlesnake has been de-fanged, the cougar has been de-clawed, and the lynx has been given a good talking to. So fear not, and proceed with confidence. 36 pages.

These full-size designs range from modest 6" x 18" to a tremendous 20" x 30". Despite the hippy-dippy cover, the designs are elegant and quite beautiful.
