Morton Portable Glass Shop and Accessories

Morton Portable Glass Shop and Accessories

The Morton Portable Glass Shop (PG01B) is a system of plug-in fixtures for Morton surfaces that transform them of them into a glass jig system. With this system and its accessories, you can make all the geometric shapes quickly and accurately; diamonds and trapezoids are no harder than a square. The Morton surface itself is sold separately.

We have been using the Morton System here at Whittemore-Durgin for umpteen years and can attest to its efficacy and durability.

The Mini Surface Plus (SS02P) is a modular set of surfaces, sold in pairs, that can be assembled and rearranged a number of ways, thus allowing you to enjoy the advantages of a small, medium, or large surface, depending on your needs.

The Morton Surfaces, as you may know, are hard molded plastic surfaces that are smooth on one side and have a 1/2" grid on the other. The grid system allows you to add innumerable devices and jigs to help you cut glass more easily and accurately. The grids also aid in cleanup, because they catch many of the tiny glass shards that inevitably fly about whilst you cut glass.

These panels are designed to work with the Morton Portable Glass Shop and their Circle cutting systems

Mr. George "Byron" Gordon of Hellespont, Miss. writes, "Here is my order for one #8083 Mini-Surface Plus to replace the old model I bought last year. We worked up a way to play bingo on it, using jelly beans as markers. It makes a super big board, but a lot of the beans got stuck in it so one of the boys shoved it in the microwave to sort of loosen them up. It's kind of colorful in a limp sort of way."

The Morton Glass Shop Assembly Tray (PG-05) makes the assembly of geometric dimensional shapes easy. Triangles, squares and pentagons are easily assembled into jewelry boxes, lamps, paperweights and more. Instructions for eight exciting projects are included.

If you decide to experiment with the use of the Mini-Surface as a Bingo board, as did the folks in Hellespont, Miss., you will want to have a suitable container for your jelly beans. A decahedronal shape is perfect for a jelly bean dish, and you can make one quite easily on the Morton Glass Shop Assembly Tray. You might also want to make a matching octahedron-shaped ash tray.

Mr. Shadrach Meshack
Mr. Shadrach Meshack

of Bellows Falls, Kansas says "I saw your Morton Surface used during a demonstration and noticed its resemblance to a fluorescent light ceiling panel. Hustling down to my local hardware store, I bought a panel and used it. But of course it was bottomless and I soon ruined the top of my wife's Steinway grand piano upon which I perform my stained glass work. Here is my order for one #8083 Mini Surface Plus. If you know of a reputable dealer in used grand piano tops, please enclose the name. The Hupmobile milk truck in which I now live is very cramped, and I would really like to move back inside before the cold weather sets in."
