Youghiogheny - Stipple

When one studies the work of Tiffany Studios, it is apparent that there is more to the selection of glass than just mottling and grain. In the best of the Studio's stained glass work there are subtle qualities in the glass selected for numbered and signed lamps which haven't been available since the furnaces at Corona, New York were shut down. The folks at Youghiogheny Opalescent Glass Co. (pronounced Yuck-a-ganey) worked on this problem and managed to duplicate the waxiness and ice-like qualities of the genuine article. They have named this art glass "Stipple Glass", because the surface has a slight graininess. Because of the quality of translucency, colors added appear to tear raggedly through the glass rather than bleed and become muddy, as is the case with traditional fluorine glasses.
